HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION

St. Apostle Paul

History of the Foundation in the name of St. Paul the Apostle began in 2003.

Exactly in 2003 two great Christian leaders - the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II and the Patriarch of Antioch and all East Ignatius IV - with the support of Islamic leaders from several Arab countries have blessed the creation of an organization called the Regional Public Foundation "Spiritual Heritage of St. Paul the Apostle." The mission of this organization was to strength the positions of orthodox Christianity in the Middle East and spiritual cooperation between East and Russia.

In March 2004, the Foundation was registered as a public organization.

In its activities, the Foundation relies on the support of the Governments of Russia and Syria, the Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East. We also collaborating with the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society, representatives of political and financial elites in Russia and Eastern countries.

At the beginning of its existence, the Foundation for the Spiritual Heritage of St. Paul the Apostle has decided to complete the amount of work, begun in 1965 by His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Alexey I, which laid the Patriarchal Monastery in the Syrian village of Kaukab - the place of the phenomenon of the Lord Christ to Paul. It was decided to complete the construction of this monastery complex and put a monument to St. Paul here.

Grand opening of the renovated monastery complex and the monument, created by Russian artist A. Rukavishnikov  was held in May 2005.

At present, the Foundation continues its activities gathering more and more adherents. The long-term program of work for the Foundation was approved personally by His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II.

Among the most ambitious objectives of the Foundation at present - implementation of a unique project that has no analogues in the world - to set a majestic sculpture "Christ in Majesty" in a mountain pass near The Cherubim monastery .

A natural rock of about 12 meters will be used as a pedestal of this monument. The bronze statue is 33 meters in height will be covered with the finest golden touch, which is called "ássist". The monument will be installed on the sunny side and "ássist", emphasizing the shape and folds of clothing, will shine very brightly, radiating glow. This will be an amazing spectacle, personally conveys the presence of the Savior.

This holy place, where The Cherubim monastery is situated, was known from the first centuries of Christianity. There were caves of monks, which exist to this day. Now they are reconstructed, there will be a museum. The view from this height is amazing: on the one side you can see Damascus, capital of Syria, on the other - the Golan Heights. The Cherubim monastery is one of the greatest centers of Christian theological education in the East, where Orthodox children are brought to learn from all over Syria.
